As Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade teachers, we know that often times the most meaningful activities for our children are the fun activities. That is why we have created a Puppy Pawty! Complete with games, matching antonyms (opposites), crafts, read to self stations, and writing prompts. You can spend the entire morning or afternoon with reading, writing, and language activities that will leave your class with positive memories!
So…
Welcome to my Preschool
Puppy Pawty!!
(also can be used for Kindergarten and 1st grade)
Stuffed Animals
We began our festivities with having everyone bring in their favorite puppy stuffed animals. They make great reading partners, and awesome classroom pets (and they don’t make a mess!)
Puppy Ears
Our next item of business was making puppy ears. This gave the children the option to wear them during the puppy pawty, or to simply take them home afterwards. Just a strip of paper for the headband (that is stapled to fit their head), and 2 pieces of black paper for the ears on the sides - also stapled) SIMPLE! (I like simple).

We started by having stations so the chaos was kept to a minimum. Here are the different stations we did for our Puppy Pawty. Take whatever you like, or make your own!!
Collar Creation

Make your own puppy collar by stringing beads on a piece of pipe cleaner. No cutting necessary!! Just put on as many beads as you need to fit around your puppy’s neck, and then twist the pipe cleaner to keep it on snug!!

Bean Bag toss

Grooming Station
Have doggy dishes and throw a bean bag into each dish. You can even have little doggy treats (aka Scooby snacks) for them at this station!

Teach your students how to care for animals with a grooming station. They can brush their hair, make a bow to put on their fur, and even give them shots to keep them healthy!
Antonym Station
This station used doggy flashcards which can be found HERE. Have your children match all 12 antonyms and help a friend do the same.
Our final station was a reading station. We gave them the option to read to self, or read to a friend (maybe even their furry friend). The Happy Dogs! Mad Mama! Books are perfect for a reading station as they are great beginning reading books that teach about the seasons, and will go great for a Puppy Pawty!
We went around to the different stations, and ended the day with a puppy craft/writing prompt. This gave them the chance to write about their favorite part of our Puppy Pawty! You can find the link to all of the directions to make the dogs as well as several different options for writing prompts HERE.
You can keep the Puppy Pawty theme going for the whole week with these Reading, Writing, and Language Arts Puppy Themed activities!
Download the Story Retelling Card, Puppy Coloring Pages, as well as 8 different Reading Activities (including compare and contrast - using a Venn diagram, story mapping, summary, character traits, problem and solution, cause and effect, and sequencing)
Overall, this was a super fun day that left the children with memorable experiences for years to come! Not only did they learn how to work together, work on their cutting, gluing, and drawing skills, recall antonyms, practice reading to self and buddy reading, and build confidence in writing, but we also created a super cute activity for the parents to see what we did at the Puppy Pawty and gave the children lasting memories for years to come!
